Scouting the Raiders
The Riverwood Raiders are already showing improvement from last season. Through three games, Riverwood is averaging 23.3 points per game while allowing 19.6 points per game, a sign of a more balanced team on both sides of the ball. Junior quarterback A.J. Rahal has been steady early, throwing for 244 yards and 3 touchdowns in his first two starts. On the ground, Noah Myers leads the way as the team’s top rusher, while 2024 all-region selection Stair has emerged as the Raiders’ top receiving threat with 7 catches for 131 yards and 2 scores, showcasing big-play speed.
Defensively, Lawrence Levine has been a problem for opposing offenses, leading the team with 19 total tackles, 3 tackles for loss, and a half sack. Brandon Leonard and Levi Perlstein have also been reliable contributors, each recording 11 tackles through three games.
Scouting the Chiefs
The Sequoyah Chiefs, meanwhile, are firing on all cylinders. Coming off a blowout win over Kell, the Chiefs defense has allowed just two touchdowns in their last 10 quarters and only one second-half touchdown all season. They’ve forced 7 turnovers and recorded 6 sacks through three games. Benji Smith and Brooks Darling have each snagged two interceptions, while Drew Williams leads the way with 30 tackles, 1 sack, and 4 QB pressures. In the trenches, Noah Normile and Matthew Matz have been tone-setters, combining for 15 tackles, 1 sack, 5 tackles for loss, and 6 QB pressures.
Offensively, Sequoyah has gone back to its bread and butter—a powerful ground game averaging 222 rushing yards per game, balanced by 163 yards per game through the air. Will Rajecki has been nearly unstoppable, rushing for 491 yards and 7 touchdowns at 8.6 yards per carry, while also catching passes (7 for 105 yards) and even completing two throws for 70 yards. Quarterback Kolby Martin has been sharp, throwing for 418 yards and 3 touchdowns with no interceptions, while Jack Ripley and Brooks Darling have combined for 14 receptions, 248 yards, and 2 touchdowns.
Pundit's Pick
This week, Sequoyah has a clear talent edge, and the game shouldn’t be close if they play to their potential. The only question: will the Chiefs stay locked in, or will they get caught reading their own press clippings after last week’s big win?!?! Expect a focused second half to erase any early sluggishness.
Prediction: Chiefs by 35.
