Scouting the Greyhounds
The Pope Greyhounds are hanging on to slim playoff hopes as they come off the by week. Pope has now dropped their last two games and face one of the top teams in the region. The Greyhounds are averaging 24.7 points per game. On the year, they are averaging 204.8 yards per game on the ground and 142.4 yards per game through the air. The Greyhounds were held to their lowest rushing output of the season in their last contest. J.T. Way continues to lead the ground game with 640 yards and 4-TDs. Meanwhile, John Stuetzer is the leading receiver for the Greyhounds with 695 yards and 9-TDs on 30 receptions. However, expect Stuetzer to contribute in the ground game and perhaps throwing the ball as well. Pope’s defense is allowing 36.6 points per game.
Scouting the Chiefs
The Sequoyah Chiefs took another big step in securing a home playoff game last week as they downed county rival, River Ridge. The Chiefs have now won three straight games and have scored 35 points or more in six of their eight contests. Sequoyah had their best effort passing the football last week as Kolby Martin threw for 258 yards and 2-TDs, completing 70% of his passes. The big night through the air was highlighted by Ean Marria’s 96 receiving yards on 3 receptions including a back breaking touchdown late in the game. Will Rajecki continues to edge closer to the 1,000 yard ruchsing mark as he has now amassed 889 yards and 11-TDs. The Chiefs are averaging 35.3 points per game while the defense is allowing 21.5
Pundit's Pick
Both of these teams will look to establish the ground game. Pope is the only team in the region to defeat Sprayberry to date. That tells us that they cannot be taken lightly. The Greyhounds have enough weapons on offense to make the game interesting, but we believe Sequoyah is too explosive on offense. Chiefs by 27.
