Chiefs looking to avoid a Red Elephant stampede in Round 1

Scouting the Chiefs

The Sequoyah Chiefs are back into the post season for the third consecutive year. The Chiefs will try to match their success of last season when they advanced to the 2nd round. We have talked before at balance on offense and Sequoyah has come a long way in mixing in the run with the pass. The team is averaging 186 yards through the air and 194 yards per game on the ground. Sequoyah has defeated four playoff teams this season, (Denmark, Kell, Woodstock and River Ridge). On the season, the Chiefs are scoring 36 points per game while allowing 21.4. Sequoyah has won five consecutive games entering Week-1 of the playoffs.

Scouting the Red Elephants

The Gainesville Red Elephants area also in the post season for the third straight season and for the 23rd time in 24 years. The Red Elephants enter the playoffs having lost two of their last three games. Gainesville is averaging 39.2 points per game while allowing 19.2 points per game. The Red Elephants boast a bevy of talent on both sides of the ball. Carter Mathis and Alex Payne anchor the offensive line. Sophomore quarterback Karim Hughley has taken the reigns of the offense and has helped guide the offense back into the postseason. The Rede Elephants have defeated three playoff teams this season. ( Moody-Alabama, Lanier and Westlake).

Pundit's Pick

These teams are similar in regards to statistics, but Gainesville has the size advantage along both lines of scrimmage. The Chiefs will have to get out to a fast start and keep Gainesville in check. The biggest question is whether Sequoyah can control the time of possession and limit an explosive Gainesville offense. Chiefs keep it close, but we like the Red Elephants by 9.
