Scouting the Longhorns

The Kell Longhorns seem to already be in a groove early in the season with two big wins to start the year. Offensively, Kell has done it courtesy of the legs of sophomore running backs, Quinterrius “Mookie” Gipson and Donte Grant, Jr. The Duo has combined for 338 yards and 4-TDs. Quarterback Kaleb Narcisse has been steady, completing 68% of his passes for 272 yards and 4-TDs. Seven different receivers have caught passes for Kell this season. Jaden George is tied for the team lead with 4 receptions and leads the team with 97 receiving yards. The Longhorns defense recorded their first shutout of the season last week and are led by Brayden Rouse who has recorded 13 total tackles, including 3 tackles for loss. Tyshawn Natt has been disruptive early this season and will have to be on each opposing offensive line’s scouting report this season.

Scouting the Chiefs

The Sequoyah Chiefs are coming off of a big victory over their county rival last week. The Chiefs were able to capitalize on some key special teams plays and execute on offense to near perfection in the victory. We have become accustomed to Sequoyah running the football over the last several season, and this season is no different, as they have averaged 240 yards per game in two contests. However, it’s been the air attack that may have caught many teams off guard, as the Chiefs are averaging 154 yards per game through the air and have already attempted 49 passes on the season. Will Rajecki and Ean Marria have emerged as one of the top running back duos in Cherokee County. They have combined to rush for 406 yards and 4-TDs. Junior Kolby Martin has thrown for 308 yards and 3-TDs. The Chiefs defense has already sacked opposing quarterbacks 6 times, with Taiwo Ogundele and Matthew Mat tied for the team lead with two each.

Pundit's Pick

These teams, although only separated by 11 miles as the crow flies, have only met 4 times. The biggest key to the game for both teams is who will be able to establish the run game. Sequoyah has more experience at quarterback and running back, but Kell’s backs seem to be just as talented. We believe this one will be close, but we believe Kell’s defense will be able to contain Sequoyah’s offense just enough. Kell by a field goal.
