Chiefs Put Winning Streak on the Line Against Dangerous Trojans

Scouting the Trojans
The resurgent Lassiter Trojans have won four straight games entering this week's matchup, with their only blemish coming in a six-point loss to the Kell Longhorns. Sophomore quarterback Caden Jones has been nothing short of spectacular, throwing for 1,561 yards and 21 touchdowns while completing 63.9% of his passes.
Jones has plenty of weapons at his disposal, led by Collins Price, who has hauled in 49 receptions for 755 yards and nine touchdowns. Dalton Price has added 24 catches for 295 yards and four scores, while Bryce Kitzrow has contributed 13 receptions for 223 yards and four touchdowns.
Caden Bloom leads the ground game with 419 yards and four touchdowns. He has also been a weapon out of the backfield, catching 13 passes for 162 yards and two scores. Nick Hooten has chipped in 414 rushing yards and a touchdown. Lassiter is averaging 409.7 yards and 44.4 points per game, making the Trojans one of the more dangerous offenses in the matchup.
The Lassiter defense has been equally impressive, allowing more than 14 points just once this season. Cole Stewart leads the team with 37 total tackles, eight tackles for loss and one sack. The Trojans have recorded 11 sacks and forced 9 turnovers.
Scouting the Chiefs
The Sequoyah Chiefs have won four straight games of their own and remain undefeated in region play. Sequoyah is averaging 415.5 yards per game offensively, led by quarterback Nolan Shakar, who has thrown for 1,186 yards and 14 touchdowns. His top targets have been Robert Van Alstyne, with 29 receptions for 455 yards and four touchdowns, and Duke Sanders, who has 19 catches for 414 yards and six scores.
The Chiefs also boast a productive ground game, with Trace Washington leading the way with 772 yards and 11 touchdowns. Defensively, Sequoyah has been stout, holding opponents to just 11.5 points per game. The Chiefs have intercepted 11 passes, returning five of them for touchdowns, while Danny Palmese leads the secondary with three interceptions.
Sequoyah has also generated consistent pressure up front, recording 14 sacks, including four by Cason Gantt. Drew Williams leads the team with 79 total tackles and eight tackles for loss, while Brady Streeter has added 72 tackles and a team-high 13 tackles for loss.
Keys to the Game
Lassiter
Protect Jones: Caden Jones must have time to find his receivers against a Sequoyah defense with 14 sacks.
Make Plays Through the Air: Collins Price, Dalton Price and Bryce Kitzrow need to capitalize on opportunities and create yards after the catch.
Establish the Run: Caden Bloom and Nick Hooten must keep the Chiefs' defense honest and prevent Sequoyah from focusing entirely on the pass.
Limit Mistakes: Avoid turnovers against a defense that has recorded 11 interceptions and five interception-return touchdowns.
Sequoyah
Pressure the Quarterback: Cason Gantt and the defensive front need to disrupt Jones and force him into difficult throws.
Contain the Receivers: Limit big plays and yards after the catch from Collins Price, Dalton Price and Bryce Kitzrow.
Lean on Washington: Trace Washington and the ground game can help control the clock and wear down the Trojans.
Win the Turnover Battle: Continue creating takeaways and capitalize on opportunities to swing momentum.
Pundit's Pick
If we look only at common opponents, it would be easy to assume Sequoyah will steamroll Lassiter. However, the Trojans have had a week to get healthy and prepare for the Chiefs, and their explosive offense is capable of putting points on the board in a hurry. Lassiter has enough firepower to make this an intriguing matchup and give the Sequoyah coaching staff reason for caution.
The Chiefs will need to pressure Jones and limit the damage done by the Trojans' talented receiving corps. Offensively, Sequoyah will likely lean on Washington to wear down Lassiter before testing the secondary with Sanders and Van Alstyne. We expect an entertaining shootout early, but we're not convinced Lassiter can keep pace with Sequoyah for all 48 minutes. The Chiefs' defensive playmaking and balanced offensive attack should prove decisive down the stretch.
Prediction: Sequoyah by 27.
