Scouting the Knights
The River Ridge Knights had won 5 consecutive games before suffering their first region loss last week at Sprayberry. Prior to that game, their wins had all been in convincing fashion, with an average margin of victory of 35 points. On the season, the Knights are averaging 36.4 points per game. Their offense has seemed to hit their stride and are led by senior quarterback Ethen Spector, who has thrown for 1,447 yards and 23 -TDs while completing 68.6% of his passes and just one interception. The Knights are averaging 211.6 yards per game through the air and 70.3 yards per game on the ground. Nine different receivers have caught passes for the Knights. Grant Hollier (28 receptions, 470 yards, 10-TDs) and Thomas Thompsen (27 receptions, 378 yards, 5-TDs), lead the team in receiving. Linebacker Wyatt McCarty and DB Sam Vincent lead the team in total tackles with 47 and 34 respectively. River ride is allowing 13.5 points per game.
Pundit's Pick
This game carries so much weight with regards to the region standings. While both teams still have a critical matchup with Creekview, the winner of this game will be in the driver's seat for a home playoff game. For Sequoyah, they will need to establish the ground game and really wear down that River Ridge defense, something not many teams have been able to do this season. For River Ridge, they will need to continue to spread the ball to multiple receivers against a youthful Sequoyah secondary. While the playoff implications are enough to make this a high stakes matchup, the fact that it is a county rivalry game just adds to the anticipation around this matchup. The last three games have been decided by a total of 15 points. Sequoyah has had the upper-hand over the last two years, but River Ridge’s passing attack has been a problem for opponents. That will be the difference this week. We like the Knights by 5.
