Scouting the Jackets
The Sprayberry Yellow Jackets are back at home this Friday after the bye week. The Jackets disposed of Riverwood after a slow start and now look to keep pace with a large pack of one-loss teams in region play. Sprayberry has won two straight region games coming into this week’s tilt and are led by junior quarterback Jaden Duckett. Duckett is a dual threat quarterback with 1,085 passing yards, 410 rushing yards and 17 total TDs. Duckett has been joined in the backfield this season by senior Rayshawn Simpkins who has rushed for 302 yards and 2-TDs. Duckett’s primary receivers are Jorden Edmonds and Mark Manfred. The two receivers also star in the Sprayberry secondary. They have combined to catch 34 passes for 694 yards and 5-TDs. Defensively, senior backers Everett Currie and Jamarion Cooper lead the team in total tackles with 50 and 43 tackles respectively. Cooper also has a team leading 5.5 sacks on the year. The Jackets have sacked opposing quarterbacks 16 times and have forced 5 turnovers. They are allowing 12.3 points per game.
Scouting the Grizzlies
The Creekview Grizzlies come into this game after dropping a game last week and falling into a four way tie for second place. The Grizzlies got the passing game going last week as quarterback Austin Guest threw for 301 yards and a touchdown. Those numbers bring Guest’s passing yardage to 862 yards passing and 8-TDs. The trio of Jackson Stanley (25 receptions, 309 yards, 4-TDs), Nic Vicarro (14, receptions, 158 yards, 2-TDs) and Nathan Ageymang (10 receptions, 232 yards, 1-TD) lead the Grizzlies in receiving. Meanwhile, Mason Munn leads the ground game with 500 yards rushing and 3-TDs, while Guest has tallied 403 yards on the ground and 7-TDs. Defensively, Creekview is allowing 18.5 points per game. They have sacked opposing quarterbacks 11.5 times and forced 5 turnovers.
Pundit"s Pick
Sprayberry has only be held below 31 points twice this season. Expect them to continue to try to establish the ground game with Simpkins. However, Duckett is a threat to run as well, and while he is a dual threat quarterback, he keeps his eyes down the field. For Creekview, they will have to find a way to run the football against a loaded box. We can almost be sure Sprayberry will play press coverage with their two outstanding DBs and dare the Grizzlies to throw it. Creekview can’t allow Duckett to get away from pressure, because that’s when he hurts teams the most. They have got to be sure tacklers this week. We believe this game is close, but think Duckett finds some magic at home. Sprayberry by 6.
