Scouting the Eagles
The Etowah Eagles dropped their second straight region game last week and now look to turn the page as they are back at home to host North Paulding. As we suspected, Etowah was competitive their last time out, as they were in the ballgame into the 4th quarter. The 25 point output last week was the best of the season for Etowah, who is now averaging 13.3 points per game. Etowah’s defense is allowing 31 points per game.
Scouting the Pack
The North Paulding Wolf Pack returns to action after a much needed bye week. Similar to Etowah, the Pack has dropped their last two region games. North Paulding will run it a little more than they throw it, as they are averaging 202 yards per game on the ground and 157 yards per game through the air. Junior back James Skelly has been the bell-cow for the ground game, with 616 yards and 11-TDs. Fellow juniors Khalil Harrell and Brycen Morris-Martinez have combined to rush for 409 yards and 4-TDs. Meanwhile, leading receiver Dube Enongene has missed the last two ballgames, so it has been receiver by committee for the Pack. Yet this is a deep team as eight different receivers have caught passes in their last two games. Defensively, North Paulding is allowing 29.5 points per game. They have sacked opposing quarterbacks 10 times and forced 4 turnovers this season.
Pundit's Pick
The stakes are high this week as we are well into the second half of the season. Another loss by either of these teams will really put them behind the eight ball in the region standings. It will be another test for Etowah’s offense to see if they can limit turnovers and cash in on drives. They have shown that they can compete. For North Paulding, they have to get pressure on Etowah’s young QB and really force him into difficult decisions. We expect this one to be close through the first half, but expect North Paulding to shake off any rust from the bye week. Pack by 10.
