Scouting the Spartans
The Campbell Spartans are off to a 2-0 start for the first time since 2021. Campbell also advanced to the playoffs last season for the first time since 2017. The Spartans have dominated their first two opponents with use of a plethora of running backs. But before we talk about that, we have to give props to the table setters along the offensive line, Zamario Woodgett and Evan Turner. These two have helped pave the way for 892 team rushing yards, including 577 last week in their win against South Forsyth. Expect for Henry Pullen to get the bulk of the carries, however, Ashton Gochett and Jordan Bailey should also see their fair share of touches. While the season is still young, it’s worth mentioning that Campbell is only allowing 3.5 points per game.
Scouting the Eagles
The Etowah Eagles gave the Sprayberry Yellow Jackets all they wanted last week, but ultimately fell short in the 4th quarter. The Eagles offense showed some improvement as they were able to find pay dirt twice on Friday night. Walker Hughes showed that he has the ability to grow into a game changing running back, while sophomore Zeke Douglass found a way to get the ball Ito some of his playmakers. Expect Douglass to be a little more comfortale putting the ball in the air for receivers liek Davinci Allen, Malone Pesquira, Ethan Weidner and Will Zazzara. While we don't expect the Eagles secondary to be testd much through the air, they will play in integral part in trying to slow down the run this week.
Pundit's Pick
The Spartans are definitely riding high and we can expect to see them try to wear down the Eagles with the ground attack. But Etowah has to also contain Campbell’s quarterback, as the lefty has shown some scrambling ability as well. We believe Etowah keeps it close for the first half, but beleive Campbell is too deep at running back. Spartans by 16.
