Familiar Foes: Warriors and Eagles square off in the County's oldest rivalry

Writer: Arthur MosleyArthur Mosley

Scouting the Warriors

The Cherokee Warriors showed no signs of rust from the bye week nor any ill-effects from being out of school last week, as they beat North Paulding handily on Friday night. Cherokee was up to their old tricks of plenty of offense as they exceeded the forty point mark for the third straight game. The Warriors are averaging 41.2 points per game this season. Quarterback Tanner Savasir added to his impressive passing totals this season as he has thrown for over 1,400 yards, 14-TDs and is the leading passer in Class 6A. The Warriors defense had their best outing since their weather shortened Week-1 win. Cherokee is allowing 32.8 points per game through five games. The Warriors have intercepted three passes and sacked opposing quarterbacks 8-times.

Scouting the Eagles

The Etowah Eagles are looking for their first region win as they come of the bye week. Etowah will need to find some of they success they were able to come by against Chapel Hill a few weeks ago. The Eagles have shown they can move the ball through the air. The question still remains if Etowah can compliment their passing attack with some effectiveness on the ground. Etowah is averaging 11 points per game while the defense is allowing 28.8 points per game.

Pundit's Pick

While there is still plenty of time left in region play, this is a game Etowah really needs if they want to get back into contention for a playoff spot. The Eagles do face a Cherokee team that will surrender some points. The big question is can Etowah's secondary contain the explosive group of Warrior receivers. That is easier said than done. Etowah has won the last two games in this series, by a combined 3 points. Conventional wisdom says that this rivavlrygame should be close again, as rivalries go. We do expect for Etowah to find the end zone a few times, but too much Cherokee offense this week. No conventional wisdom here...Warriors by 19.
