Scouting the Cardinals
For years, the Oborne Cardinals have struggled on the football field, but last Friday, they changed thier fortunes and managed to get their first region win since 2011, as they beat Kennesaw Mountain by 32. Don’t look now, but the Osborne Cardinals are 6-0 for the first time since 1994. The Cardinals offense is led by quarterback Eddie “Deuce” Burr. The senior signal caller is one of the top passers in Cobb County this season and has shown good pocket presence as he’s shown his willingness to step up in the pocket and buy himself more time for his receivers to get open. He’s also shown ability to make throws on the run. Licori Humphrey isn't the biggest running back, but he’s shown that he can be dangerous after he get’s through the line of scrimmage as he’s shifty in the open field. On the year, Osborne is averaging 38.5 points per game and allowing 6 points per game.
Scouting the Warriors
The Cherokee Warriors are back on the road this week and will look to find a way to slow down an Osborne team with playoff expectations. Cherokee has had success through the air this season as they are averaging 220.8 yards per game. They’ve continued to improve on the ground as they had their best rushing performance in a game last week, tallying 155 rushing yards. Last week, it was the combination of Jared Jones and Christian Irwin accounting for 123 yards rushing yards. Meanwhile, the Warriors receiving group added some depth as Jayce Jones returned to the starting lineup for the first time this season. He had 3 receptions for 75 yards and a TD, while tight end Wyatt Tash had another big game and went over the century mark in receiving. Seven different receivers caught passes for the Warriors last week.
Pundit's Pick
The Cardinals are flying high coming into this week as they’ve been impressive all season long. Burr did not play last week and we are unsure of his status this week. Either way whoever lines up a quarterback will have their hands full with an active Cherokee defense. This is the best offense the Cardinals will face to date. For Cherokee, they’ve got to find a way to establish the ground game and limit turnovers. We expect a closely contested ball game, but Osborne has the hot hand. Cardinals shock the state again this week and win by 3.
