Scouting the Jackets
The Sprayberry Yellow Jackets are winners of their last three games. Sprayberry is averaging 32.2 points per game on the year and had their best production on offense last week, scoring over 40 points for the first time this season. Sprayberry’s offense is powered by junior quarterback Jaden Duckett who is just as dangerous running or throwing. Last week, he threw for 200 yards and rushed for 96, including 4 rushing TDs. On the year, Duckett has thrown for 1,285 yards, rushed for 506 yards and accounted for 22-TDs. He’s thrown 1 interception in 111 pass attempts. Jorden Edmonds (24 receptions, 479 yards, 4-TDs) and Mark Manfred (18 receptions, 397 yards, 2-TDs) lead the Jackets in receiving. Defensively, Sprayberry is allowing 13.5 points per game. The Jackets have sacked opposing quarterbacks 17 times this year. Jamarion Cooper leads the team with 5.5 sacks.
Scouting the Knights
The River Ridge Knights might just be the hottest team in the region as they have won five consecutive games and are the only undefeated team in region play. River Ridge is averaging 38 points per game this season and during their five game win streak, they are averaging 44.2 points per game. Over the course of the season River Ridge has been more of a pass oriented attack. They average over 190 passing yards per game and just over 100 rushing yards per game. The Knights have three dangerous receiving targets in Thomas Thompsen, Sam Vincent and Grant Hollier, all with over 14 receptions on the season. Quarterback Ethan Spector has thrown for 1,193 yards and 21-TDs. He only has one interception in 130 pass attempts. Defensively, River Ridge is allowing just 10.8 points per game and recorded their first shutout of the season last week.
Pundit's Pick
Both teams have their eyes set on a Region title and this game will go a long way in determining the region champion. A River Ridge win this week, could sew up a title if it were to also defeat Sequoyah next week. A Sprayberry win this week would force a logjam of one loss teams and give the Jackets a tie breaker over River Ridge and Sequoyah. The best matchup should be Sprayberry’s secondary versus the talented wide receiving group from River Ridge. Sprayberry has enough firepower to match River Ridge in scoring, but the Knights are a little deeper at receiver, we like River Ridge by 5.
