River Ridge vs Allatoona: Knights and Bucs vie for final playoff spot

Scouting the Knights

The River Ridge Knights got a big field goal last week from junior Gracen VanGilder to propel the Knights into the win column and to keep their playoff hopes alive. Last week’s win broke a three game skid for the Knights as they now look to clinch their third consecutive playoff appearance. River Ridge’s offense has been powered by the usual suspects as quarterback Ethan Spector, (1,442 yards, 17-TDs) continues to find big play success through the air with receivers Grant Hollier, Thomas Thompsen and Sam Vincent. The trio has combined to catch 109 passes for 1,100 yards and 16-TDs. Sophomore running back Camden Cox has rushed for 676 yards and 5-TDs to pace the Knights on the ground.

Scouting the Bucs

The Allatoona Buccaneers have bounced back from a slow start earlier this season and now find themselves in position to qualify for the playoffs for the 14th consecutive season. The Bucs have found plenty of success running the ball with Xavier Rucker. Prior to last week’s game at Sequoyah, the sophomore has rushed for 516 yards and 2-TDs. For Allatoona, they will need to find consistency to maintain drives. Quarterback Sadiq Teal has been up and down this season. He has shown the ability to complete passes in tight windows for big plays. Teal has thrown for 895 yard sand 9-TDs.

Pundit's Pick

The stakes could not be higher for either of these teams as the winner will advance to the playoffs while the loser's season will be over. For Allatoona, they will need to establish the ground game and force some River Ridge turnovers. For River Ridge, they will need to continue to find big plays with Hollier, Vincent and Thompsen. Special teams could come into play and both of these teams have great kickers, (Gray Kelley for the Bucs and Gracen VanGilder for the Knights.) We like the Knights at hime by 4.
