Scouting the Wolves
The Rome Wolves are back to Barron Stadium and looking to complete another region sweep. The Wolves come into this game winners of their last six contests. The Wolves have also won 17 straight region games dating back to September of 2021. Rome continued their mastery of Region 6-6A last week and are now averaging 48.6 points per game. Their defense did allow 19 points last week, which is only the second time they’ve allowed double digit points all season. Rome has several weapons on offense and it starts with quarterback Reece Fountain. Fountain has four talented wide receivers in D.K. Daniel, Toot Stallings, Nic Hester and B.J. Jackson. The Wolves also have a dynamic one-two punch at running back with Chance Arthur and Javarius McDearmont. Rome’s defense has allowed 8.5 points per game.
Scouting the Eagles
The Etowah Eagles will travel to Rome in search of their first region win of the season. As we have mentioned before, the Eagles have been bitten by the injury bug. The Eagles were able to get quarterback Jack Strickland back from injury and he had a big week last week throwing for 249 yards 2-TDs as well as a rushing TD. The Eagles will need another big performance from Strickland and the Eagles offense. Etowah will also need to find success on the ground to help sustain drives. The Eagles secondary will be tested early and often. They will need to be sure tacklers against Rome’s receiver screens.
Pundit's Pick
Etowah is facing an uphill battle this week against Rome. The Eagles will need to find a way to jump on the Wolves early. They will have to limit turnovers, establish the run and force some Rome turnovers. That’s much easier said than done. We like the Wolves by five touchdowns.
