Scouting the Chiefs
The Sequoyah Chiefs are winners of their last four games and come into this week with an outside chance of claiming their first region title since 2003. Last time out, the Chiefs offense had their best scoring output of the season as they notched 56 points in the victory. Sequoyah racked up 489 yards of total offense last week and is now averaging 385.5 yards of total offense per game on the season. The Chiefs are led offensively by a trio of juniors, quarterback Kolby Martin (65% completion percentage, 1,669 yards, 17- TDs), Will Rajecki (992 rushing yards, 506 receiving yards on 31 receptions, 18 total TDs) and Brooks Darling (33 receptions, 564 yards, 9-TDs). Not to mention they might have two of the best underclassmen at offensive line in the area in junior Alex Brewer and sophomore Brody Craig. The defense has been led by seniors Taiwo Ogundele (71 total tackles, 14 TFLs, 4 sacks), Spencer Geist, (63 total tackles), and Ean Marria, (27 total tackles, 12 TFLs, 6 sacks). On the season, the Chiefs are averaging 37.6 points per game while the defense is allowing 22.2 points per game.
Scouting the Grizzlies
The Creekview Grizzlies came up short last week and will miss out on the playoffs this season. The Grizzlies have dropped three of their last four games and are looking to reverse the curse against Sequoyah. Creekview is averaging 370 yards of total offense on the season as they are relatively balanced, with 171 yards per game through the air and 199 yards per game on the ground. Dual threat quarterback, Austin Guest has accounted for over 2,200 yards of total offense including 24 total TDs). Mason Munn is second on the team in rushing with 623 yards and 5-TDs. Meanwhile, Jackson Stanley has been the go to receiver for the Grizzlies with 42 receptions for 693 yards and 8-TDs. Defensively, senior linebackers Brant Freeman and Ryan Brooks continue to lead the Grizzlies with 82 and 64 total tackles respectively. Freeman also leads the team with 15 TFLs and 6 sacks. The Grizzlies defense has sacked opposing quarterbacks 18 times this season.
Pundit's Pick
While Creekview cannot make the playoffs this season, there is still a lot to play for in this county rivalry game. The Grizzlies will probably see a lot of different blitzes from Sequoyah as they will try to stuff the box and stymie the Grizzlies ground attack. Meanwhile expect Sequoyah to have to find a way to slow down Ryan Brooks and Brant Freeman on defense, as those two backers have caused issues for opposing offenses all season long. Creekview can’t get behind early as Sequoyah has been good at playing with a lead all season long. We like the Chiefs by 11.
