Scouting the Chiefs
The Sequoyah Chiefs open region play in the friendly confines of Skip Pope Stadium where they have won consecutive games to pull to .500 this season. The Chiefs have opened up the offense and entrusted sophomore quarterback Kolby Martin to distribute the ball through the air. He’s thrown for 436 yards and 4 TDs. Will Rajecki and Ean Maria have made for a solid one-two punch in the backfield for the Chiefs, combining for 180 yards and 3-TDs. Meanwhile the defense has flipped a switch, allows just two touchdowns in the last two games en route to holding opponents to 12 points per games in those to wins.
Scouting the Eagles
The Etowah Eagles continued their hot streak as they again went over the 50-point mark last week. The Eagles racked up 509 yards of offense last week which is on par with their average of 526 yards per game. Xavier Mahoney continues to impress as last week, he racked up 292 yards off offense and accounted for 6-TDs. Mahoney, a dual threat quarterback, has thrown for 400 yards and 5-TDs and rushed for 612 yards and 11-TDs. He has also accounted for 18 total TDs this year which is tops in the nation. Reece Wehr continues his torrid pace as he now has rushed for 578 yards and is only second to his teammate Mahoney. The Eagles are averaging 47.7 points per game while allowing 25.7 points per game.
Pundit's Pick
This game will feature two very contrasting styles. Sequoyah’s defense has been up to the task in slowing down a couple of good offenses over the last two weeks. Etowah, however, has shown a little more explosiveness than Sequoyah’s prior opponents. We don’t expect the Eagles to get to their season average in points, and we believe Sequoyah can hold them under 28. However, we like Etowah’s offense to get the job done. Eagles by 4.
