Scouting the Warriors
The Cherokee Warriors continue their non-region portion of their schedule with a home game this week. The Warriors offense has been on full display in their first two ball games. Quarterback Tanner Savasir threw for over 300 yards in his his first full game, (Week-1 was shortened due to weather.) Christian Irwin, Jared Jones Brandon Hamilton continue to prove to be a lethal combination of power (Irwin) and speed (Hamilton and Jones). The Warriors also spread the ball around to their talented corps of pass catchers, including tight end, Wyatt Tash and wide receivers Izzy Conway, Gracen Sexton, Malachi Echols and Jace Jones. We have said this before, the Warriors really have a deep group of skill players that create matchup nightmares.
Scouting the Greyhounds
The Pope Greyhounds are coming off of a big win over Dunwoody in which they scored 41 points. It was the first time the Greyhounds scored 41 points or more since September of 2021. Pope did most of their damage through the air as FSU baseball commit had John Stuetzer caught 9 passes for 266 yards and 3-TDs. Stuetzer also rushed for 35 yards and 2-TDs. Meanwhile, senior quarterback Hudson Deline completed 76.9% of his passes for 273 yards and 3-TDs and added 34 yards on the ground. Senior running back J.T. Way served as the workhorse on the ground, notching 183 yards on the ground on 25 carries with 1-TD.
Pundit's Pick
This game has the potential to be another barn burner. Pope has shown a lot of promise early and has a chance to be a serious competitor for one of the playoff spots in Region 6-5A. Cherokee will need to bounce back quickly this week. They will need to really get after quarterback Hudson Deline and make him uncomfortable in the pocket. If Deline has time to throw, he can really carve up the secondary. We believe Pope will keep the game close through three quarters, but like Cherokee to pull away in the 4th. Warriors by 13.
