Warriors and Knights Clash for the First Time

Writer: Arthur MosleyArthur Mosley

Scouting the Warriors

The Cherokee Warriors will open their season at home on Friday as the Adam Holley era of Cherokee Football begins. While this will be Coach Holley’s first time as a head coach, he will have plenty of familiar faces on the offensive side of the the ball. Look for the Warriors to take advantage of the experience of three year starter Tanner Savasir at quarterback. Savasir has thrown for over 3,500 yards in his career and he will certainly be looking to add to that. The Warriors will have plenty of weapons at the skill position including receivers Wyatt Tash, Gracen Sexton, Malachi Echols, Israel Conway, Jace Jones and Jared Jones. And of course we can’t forget about bruising running back Christian Irwin. In addition to Irwin, The Warriors will also have the services of Brandon Hamilton and Jalion Trowers. Both of these young backs have shown great quickness and have potential game-breaking speed. Defensively, look for Cherokee to capitalize on their team speed to disrupt River Ridge this week. We wouldn’t be surprised to hear Everett Watkins, Eric Ward, Jordan Brown-Westbroook And Charlie Dahlen called over the PA address this Friday for making plays on defense.

Scouting the Knights

The River Ridge Knights open the season looking to build on their success under head coach Michael Collins. Like the Warriors, River Ridge will return a bevy of talent at the skill positions on offense. Senior quarterback Ethan Spector will look to lead his team back to the postseason for the third consecutive season. Spector will be joined in the backfield by two talented backs in junior Camden Cox and sophomore Micah Pugh. The tandem combined for 1,244 yards rushing last season. Meanwhile Spector, who has thrown for over 3,400 yards in his first two seasons at quarterback will have several familiar faces at receiver, including the talented Grant Hollier, Sam Vincent, Thomas Thompsen and Nik Bryant. This quartet might prove to be one of the best in Cherokee County and one of the most formidable receiving corps in North Central Georgia. Defensively, Bryant will be joined with Revis McClaren in the secondary. These two are two of the best defensive backs in the county. The Ridge also returns one of their top tacklers from 2023 in Wyatt McCarty at linebacker and look for Mason McClendon to have a breakout season along the defensive line.

Pundit's Pick

These are the only two county schools that have not met during the regular season as the oldest high school in the county (Cherokee) takes on the newest high school in the County (River Ridge) We expect the scoreboard operator to be bust at Tommy Baker field as both of these offenses should have success. We believe that the team speed of Cherokee might be the difference in a closely contested game. Warriors by 4.
