Scouting the Jackets
The Sprayberry Yellow Jackets inched closer to claiming their first region title since 2008. Last week, Sprayberry recorded their second shutout of the season en route to wining their fifth straight game. The Jackets used a balance attack in the victory as the gained 174 yards through the air and 158 yards on the ground. On the season, Sprayberry is averaging 199.7 yards per game through the air and 174 yards per game on the ground. Jaden Duckett has been the engine that has driven the Jackets, throwing for 1,727 yards and rushing for 640 yards and accounting for 25 total TDs. Meanwhile, Rayshawn Simpkins has come on as of late to help boost the ground game; the senior has added 548 yards and 4-TDs. Mark Manfred and Jorden Edmonds have been a dynamic duo as they’ve combined to catch 55 passes for 1,220 yards and 8-TDs. Senior linebacker Everett Currie leads the defense with 65 total tackles. The Jackets are allowing 13.5 points per game.
Scouting the Wolverines
The Woodstock Wolverines picked up their seventh win of the season as they outlasted the Riverwood Raiders on Friday. With the win, the Wolverines clinched their first playoff berth since 2017. The Wolverines got 271 yards through the air from sophomore quarterback Graham Burmeister. Five different Wolverines caught passes in the victory, but it was senior running back Isaiah Payton who carried the ball for 159 yards and notched all three of the Woodstock touchdowns in the win. Payton has inched back into the lead as the county’s rusher as he’s the first back to go over 1,000 yards on the season in Cherokee County. Woodstock has been balanced on offense all season as they are averaging 190.7 yards per game through the air and 192.9 yards per game on the ground. Woodstock is averaging 30.2 points per game and allowing 16.7 points per game.
Pundit's Pick
While both of these teams have clinched playoff spots, this game will go a long way in determining the all important region champion. The Jackets will need to come into this game focused on putting pressure on Woodstock's quarterback and smothering their ground game. Meanwhile, Woodstock will need to find a way to slow down Sprayberry's dynamic rushing attack when they are on defense and then nuetralize Sprayberry's linebackers when they are on defense. Slowing down Sprayberry has been something not many teams have been able to do this season. We like the Jackets by 7.
