Scouting the Wolverines
The Woodstock Wolverines snapped another couple of streaks last week as they were able to get their first county win and first region win since 2000; breaking an almost three year drought. With the win, the Wolverines kept their slim playoff hopes alive and will need to win out and hope for some help along the way. The Wolverines ran for over 100 yards and scored two rushing touchdowns en route to the victory. Sherrod Ely led the charge with 59 yards. On the season, Ely has rushed for 240 yards and 3-TDs as he leads the Wolverines in rushing. Peyton Lynch has now thrown for 1,355 yards this season. Woodstock is averaging 13 points per game but have been over that average their last two games.
Scouting the Grizzlies
The Creekview Grizzlies are coming off a tough loss to rival Sequoyah last week. While the Grizzlies did struggle a bit through the air, they did continue to have success on the ground as quarterback Austin Guest led the way with 159 yards and 2-TDs. The Grizzlies offense was held under their season average last week, while the defense surrendered their second most points of the season. Guest continues to lead the Grizzlies offense with 1,152 yards passing, 911 yards rushing and 24 total TDs. Defensively, the Grizzlies were able to force three turnovers and converted two of those turnovers into points. Reed Anderson continues to lead the team in total tackles (71) and tackles for loss (17.5). As a team, they've sacked opposing quarterbacks 24 times.
Pundit's Pick
Believe it or not, Woodstock is not yet eliminated from playoff contention. They’ll need to win this week and also need some help. This is a team that is definitely trending in the right direction. Meanwhile, the Grizzlies are in good shape for a playoff game, but can’t take the Wolverines for granted. This could be a trap game for Creekview. If the Grizzlies can set the tone of the game by running the football, they should avoid back to back losses. We like the Creekview by 19.
