Chiefs Look to Stay Hot Against Hungry Longhorns

Sequoyah Chiefs newcomer Trace Washington made a statement on Friday night, rushing for 174 yards and two touchdowns on just 12 attempts to pace the Chiefs' offense.

Meanwhile, quarterback Nolan Shakar completed 8 of 13 passes for 104 yards in the victory. Robert Van Alstyne led Sequoyah with seven receptions for 67 yards.

Defensively, the Chiefs sacked Denmark's quarterback twice while creating 20 quarterback hurries. While we are familiar with linebackers Drew Williams and the aforementioned Trace Washington, Brady Streeter is emerging as another star for the Chiefs.

Streeter led the team with 14 total tackles and five tackles for loss while also recording a sack in the victory. Drew Williams tallied 13 total tackles, including three tackles for loss and a sack. Sequoyah's defensive performance was particularly impressive, and the Chiefs will look to create similar pressure against Lambert quarterback Ryan Dyce.

Scouting the Longhorns

The Lambert Longhorns dropped their first game of the season to Peachtree Ridge, marking the third straight season the Longhorns have dropped their season opener. Quarterback Ryan Dyce threw for 284 yards and a pair of touchdowns in his first start of the season. Perhaps what was most impressive was his ability to stay poised in the pocket while keeping his eyes downfield.

Lukas Gonzales had a productive night at receiver, catching four passes for 70 yards and a touchdown. The Longhorns' offense did, however, turn the ball over twice in the defeat.

Defensively, Lambert tallied three sacks, with Ian Duck recording one and Ife Joseph adding two. Joseph also recorded three tackles for loss and forced a fumble. Chris Oladeji led the Longhorns with 11 total tackles, including two tackles for loss.

• Keep Washington rolling: After a monster Week 1 performance, Trace Washington gives the Chiefs a major weapon in the ground game.

• Pressure Dyce: Sequoyah created 20 quarterback hurries last week and will need to make Ryan Dyceuncomfortable.

• Create turnovers: The Chiefs' defense needs to continue finding ways to give its offense extra possessions.

• Stay balanced: If Sequoyah can run the football effectively while making timely plays through the air, Lambert will have a difficult night.

• Stop Washington: The biggest priority is slowing down Trace Washington and the Sequoyah rushing attack.

• Protect Dyce: Lambert's offensive line must limit the pressure and give Ryan Dyce time to work downfield.

• Take care of the football: Two turnovers hurt the Longhorns in Week 1, and they cannot afford to give Sequoyah extra opportunities.

• Force Sequoyah to throw: The Longhorns need to stack the box and make the Chiefs prove they can consistently win through the air.

Pundit's Pick

While the Longhorns' offense was able to keep their quarterback upright for most of the game last week, we suspect Sequoyah will really look to get after him and provide a little more pressure.

Meanwhile, Lambert's defense will have to stop the run. Was Trace Washington's Week 1 performance what we can come to expect, or was it just a flash in the pan? Either way, the Chiefs have to be feeling good about what they saw from their newcomer. We believe Sequoyah's defense should be able to limit Lambert just enough to come away with another victory.
