Friday night at Skip Pope Stadium featured one of the biggest matchups in Georgia high school football, as the No. 9-ranked Sequoyah Chiefs (5A)* hosted the No. 5-ranked Kell Longhorns (4A)*. Both teams entered undefeated, but the night belonged to Sequoyah — and especially to Will Rajecki, a Memphis commit who rushed for over 200 yards and three touchdowns in a dominant win.
The Chiefs struck first when Maddox Waller hauled in an 8-yard touchdown pass from Kolby Martin, giving Sequoyah a 7-0 lead with 8:31 left in the opening quarter. The kicking game extended the advantage as Leif Hansen connected on a 45-yard field goal late in the first, followed by makes from 33 and 28 yards in the second quarter. Hansen’s perfect 3-for-3 first half helped Sequoyah take a 16-0 lead into halftime.
The Chiefs’ defense set the tone to start the second half, as Brooks Darling intercepted a Kell pass to set up great field position. Moments later, Rajecki powered in from five yards out to make it 23-0 with 10:15 left in the third quarter. Darling wasn’t finished as he snagged his second interception of the night on the very next possession, marking back-to-back turnovers forced by Sequoyah’s defense.
Kell finally broke through in the fourth quarter with a touchdown, but the two-point attempt failed, leaving the Chiefs ahead 23-6. From there, Rajecki put the game away, scoring twice more; first on a 9-yard rush, then breaking free for a 65-yard dagger with just over two minutes to play. In between, the defense continued to shine, as Benji Smith added a third interception for the Chiefs.
The final score stood at Sequoyah 37, Kell 6. With the win, the Chiefs stayed perfect on the season and made a statement against another top-10 program. Will Rajecki’s three-touchdown, 200-yard night headlined a balanced effort that included strong special teams and a defense that reeled in three interception in the second half. *Rankings via https://turdfurgeson.com/
