Etowah and Chapel Hill match up in a primer before region play

Scouting the Eagles

The Etowah Eagles are still in search of their first win of the season. They continue to find their rhythm offensively as they adjust to life without one of their star players. In three games, the Eagles are averaging 10.3 points per game, while the defense is allowing 29.3. A lot of that has to do with the level of competition Etowah has played to date. Their opponents are a combined 9-0 on the season and all of their opponents are averaging over 30 points per game. Etowah will have to find a little more consistency on offense and find a way to get off the field on defense in critical 3rd down situations.

Scouting the Panthers

The Chapel Hill Panthers were off last week and might be the least potent offense that Etowah has faced to date. The Panthers are averaging 14 points per game. Quarterback Julian Shepp has been effective for the Panthers in their short and intermediate passing game. He has also shown the ability to extend plays with his legs. Expect Chapel Hill to spread the ball around to 4 or 5 different receivers as they will look to get their athletes in space and allow them to make plays. Defensively, the Panthers are allowing 13.5 points per game. That number is bolstered by their shutout of Osborne last week.

Pundit's Pick

Both of these teams are in need of a momentum building win as they head into region play. For Etowah, they will need to find consistency through the air and enough of a ground game to keep Chapel Hill honest. For Chapel Hill, they will need to get their playmakers in favorable matchups and allow them to use their athleticism to make plays. This should be a close contest. We like the Eagles by 1.
