Scouting the Eagles
The Etowah Eagles got in the win column last week as they came from behind to defeat Chapel Hill. We had mentioned previously that Etowah needed to find some momentum and it looked like they did on Friday. Sophomore quarterback Zeke Douglass tossed 3-TD passes and threw for 195 yards en route to the victory. The Eagles offense notched their largest point total of the season, while the defense had it’s best performance of the season. Coming into last week’s game, the Eagles were only averaging 15.5 points per game.
Scouting the Blue Devils
The Marietta Blue Devils are in search of their first win of the season. The Blue Devils haven’t started the season 0-4 since 2011. Marietta has primarily tried to get things going through the air, as they are averaging 192.3 yards per game passing. The Blue Devils have utilized two quarterbacks, Jayden Whiteside (544 yards, 3-TDs) and Carson Snipes (225 yards, 1-TD) to spearhead the offense. Top receivers for Marietta include Sam Anderson (20 receptions, 142 yards, 1-TD) and Elijah Green (18 receptions 411 yards, 1-TD). Defensively, Anthony Kruah is second on the team in total tackles with 16, including 8 for loss. He also tops the team in sacks with 5.
Pundit's Pick
Both of these teams will lean on young quarterbacks to lead them through the remainder of the season. Etowah will need another fine outing from Zeke Douglass, and he’ll need his receivers to step up again. Etowah will also need to make sure Kruah is accounted for, as he can wreak havoc on offenses. For Marietta, they have to limit turnovers and try and establish some sort of ground game. While Marietta has not won a game, we believe their schedule has been a little more difficult, and we believe that gives them a slight edge. We like the Blue Devils by 2.
