Scouting the Eagles
The Etowah Eagles were certainly the surprise team of Cherokee County, reeling off 4 straight wins to start the season, before running into a stingy region schedule. The Eagles will look to build off of last years success behind dual threat QB Xavier Mahoney. Mahoney is one of the most elusive players in Cherokee County, as he helped spearhead an offense that averaged 22.9 points per game last season. Reece “Buffalo” Wehr provides a change of pace at running back for the Eagles. Defensively, look for Dravin Cole and Joshua Harding to help set the table and hold Lassiter's ground game in check.
Scouting the Trojans
The Lassiter Trojans graduated their quarterback and leading rusher from last season. There is not a lot of offensive experience returning for the Trojans due to graduation, so the newcomers will get a baptism by fire. We expect Levi Mundt to begin the season at quarterback. In 2022 Mundt threw for 389 yards and a touchdown in a back-up role. Defensively, Griffin Mack can be a disruptor in the backfield. He had 32 total tackles last season and 5 sacks.
The Skinny
It will be interesting to see if Etowah’s 2022 was a flash in the pan or if they can duplicate their success. While we believe the Eagles have some holes to fill on the defensive end, we suspect their offense will be up to the task this week. We like Etowah by 17.
