Scouting the Eagles
The injury bug has bitten the Etowah Eagles hard over the last three games. The Eagles will seemingly turn to a pair of freshmen at key positions this week as Zeke Douglass looks to be set to go under center while Walker Hughes is set to carry the load at running back. The good news for Etowah, is that they have an experienced offensive line and experience at receiver. That offensive line of Jacob Cassell, Terrell Mensah, Dylan Nichols, Spade Ponder and Tate Nelms will be the key to the Eagles success offensively. Hughes does have varsity experience in the backfield and got his first start two weeks ago against Creekview. Defensively, Etowah is allowing 22 points per game and has forced 11 turnovers on the year. They’ve also sacked opposing quarterbacks 22 times this year.
Scouting the Wolverines
The Woodstock Wolverines fought valiantly last week, but were unable to get past Allatoona. The Wolverines had their best offensive performance of the season in defeat as they gained 340 yards of total offense, including a season high of 234 yards through the air. Chase Colina had a big game last time out and on the season has caught 39 passes for 501 yards and 4-TDs. Of course, we have mentioned Peyton Lynch at quarterback as he has thrown for 1,217 yards and 8-TDs. The Wolverines defense has forced eight turnovers on the season and have sacked opposing quarterbacks 11 times with Braedy Sommerville continuing to lead the way with a team high 5, (sacks).
Pundit's Pick
While both teams will be playing for bragging rights, each team will be in search of the all important first region victory. A loss by either team would all but eliminate them from playoff contention. Woodstock will have to get a similar performance from the passing game while Etowah will need to find a way to get pressure on the Woodstock quarterback. We expect this to be a low scoring but very competitive ball game. We believe the Etowah Eagles have a slight advantage in the battle of Towne Lake because of their defense. Etowah by 4 at home.
