Scouting the Knights

The River Ridge Knights got in the win column last week as they defeated Class 6-A Denmark. The Knights were up to their old tricks of opportunistic defense and special teams heroics as they held the Danes at bay. River Ridge recorded an interception and recovered an onside kick, and then cashed those opportunities in for points. For the Knights offense, Ethan Spector shined bright with almost 180 yards through the air and 3-TDs. River Ridge has a potent offense last season, putting up 30 or more points five times a year ago, with most of that production at the skill position returning. The Knights had a chance to showcase some of their receiving talent, including Sam Vincents, Grant Hollier and Thomas Thompsen.

Scouting the Bucs

The Allatoona Buccaneers also got their first win of the season last week as they edged out South Paulding. The Bucs have turned to quarterback Cruz Paul to lead the way on offense. Paul played in a handful of games last season. He will be flanked in the backfield by a pair of talented running backs in Xavier Rucker and Ethan Corpus. The duo has combined to rush for 416 yards and 7-TDs early on in the season. Defensively, Altoona is allowing 28.5 points per game.

Pundit's Pick

These old region foes meet again as River Ridge looks to make it to victories in a row over Allatoona. The Bucs will have their hands full with a very talented River Ridge receiving corps and backfield. If they can’t get pressure on the quarterback, it could be a long night. Conversely, River Ridge will need to find a way to stop the Bucs ground attack. We like the Knights, because of their experience and depth at the skill positions. River Ridge by two touchdowns.
