Grizzlies and Bears tussle in a battle of unbeatens

Scouting the Bears

The Cambridge Bears are off to a hot start under first year head coach Tyler Jones. Jones previously served as the offense coordinator for the Walton Raiders and River Ridge Knights. The Bears have really opened things up on offense this season as quarterback Weston Taylor has thrown for 412 yards and 7-TDs with a 68% completion percentage. Craig Dandridge and Hudson Cocchiara lead the team in receiving with a combined 307 yards and 6-TDs between the pair. The Bears will run the ball, to keep the defense honest. Figure to see Tyler Blalock with most of the carries as he leads the team with 17 attempts for 89 yards and 3-TDs. Gabe Smith, a Liberty commit, anchors the offensive line. As impressive as the Bears offense has been, averaging 42.5 points in their first two games, their defense has been equally impressive, allowing just 12 points per game.

Scouting the Grizzlies

The Creekview Grizzlies earned a hard fought win on the heels of efficient offense, especially after turnovers in their last outing. It should be no surprise that the Grizzlies identity is to establish the ground game. This team has found their footing with a three headed attack of Mason Munn, quarterback Austin Guest, and Tristan McWilliams. Munn leads the team with 197 yards and 1 touchdown on the season, while Guest has rushed for 189 yards and 2-TDs and McWilliams has added 51 yard and a touchdown. Jackson Stanley and Nick Vacarro, both with 7 receptions, have become reliable receiving targets when Creekview decides to put the ball in the air. Defensively, Brant Freeman and Ryan Brooks continue to lead the team in takcles while Kevin Meade anchors the defensive line and leads the team with 4.5 tackles for loss.

Pundit's Pick

This week, we should get an idea of how good Creekview’s defense is against the pass. Expect Cambridge to try to take advantage of Dandridge’s pass catching ability as he seems to be emerging is a big play threat. If Creekview’s front four can get some pressure on Taylor, they could find themselves in line for the win. We expect this game will be much closer this season than last year's tilt, as Cambridge’s ability to strike quick will keep this close. Yet, we like the Grizzlies by 4 on the strength of their ground game.
