Scouting the Trojans
The Lassiter Trojans are off to their best start since 2017, opening the season 3-0 behind an explosive offense averaging 40 points per game and a defense allowing just 16.6 points per game. Senior quarterback Mitch Seamen has been nearly flawless, throwing for 658 yards, 7 touchdowns, and no interceptions with an efficient 69% completion rate. Seamen has also added 120 rushing yards and 2 scores with his legs.
His favorite target, Collins Price, has been seemingly unstoppable—catching 17 passes for 329 yards and all 7 of Seamen’s touchdown throws. Bryce Kitzrow has added 8 receptions for 108 yards, while the backfield tandem of freshman Drew McGee and junior Caden Bloom has combined for 368 rushing yards and 5 touchdowns.
Defensively, Lassiter has generated 3 sacks and forced 4 turnovers in its first three games. Linebackers Chase Campbell (13 tackles) and Reid Ashmore (12 tackles), along with defensive lineman Chase Jones (13 tackles), lead the way. Ashmore has been particularly disruptive with 5 tackles for loss.
Scouitng the Grizzlies
The Creekview Grizzlies, on the other hand, are still searching for their first win. Last week, they hung tough against a talented Cambridge team, trailing by just a touchdown at halftime before giving up three second-half scores. The Grizzlies are averaging 93 passing yards per game and 96.7 rushing yards per game, and have shown steady improvement.
Quarterback Landon Barnes completed 10 of 13 passes for 118 yards last Friday and has thrown for 216 yards while completing 59.4% of his passes this season. Travis Vines leads the rushing attack with 157 yards and 1 touchdown, while Carson Lott has added 82 yards. In the passing game, sophomore Jackson Tyson made a key first-half grab last week as Barnes spread the ball to five different receivers. Defensively, Hudson Stanley and J.D. Russell have combined for 26 tackles, with Russell adding 2 interceptions.
Pundit's Pick
Both teams are fighting to return to the playoffs after a few year absence, making this region opener critical. Creekview will need to pressure Seamen to keep Lassiter’s passing attack in check, and their secondary has the talent to slow down the Trojans if the front seven holds up. The bigger question: can Creekview’s offense sustain drives on the road?
Lassiter’s opponents are a combined 1-7, while Creekview’s are 7-1—giving the Grizzlies an edge in strength of schedule, presumably. This one figures to be much closer than last year’s Creekview blowout.
Prediction: Creekview by 3.
