Sprayberry vs River Ridge: Knights defense looking to snuff out the explosive Jackets

Scouting the Yellow Jackets

The Sprayberry Yellow Jackets are a team that had a lot of question marks coming into the season with a young roster. Despite the youth, the Jackets have started off 2-0 for the first time since 2016. While we did mention the Jackets youth, they do return a couple of experienced skill players in Mark Manfred who will see time at receiver and cornerback along with running back Jason Pitts. Pitts has already tallied 219 yards and 4-TDs on the season. With a young quarterback in Jaden Duckett, we expect for Sprayberry to favor the run over the pass this week. Defensively, Everett Currie has already tallied 39 total tackles this season. Jordan Edmonds is a rangy DB who will join Manfred in the secondary helping make it difficult for the Knights passing attack.

Scouting the Knights

The River Ridge Knights held off a late Pope rally last week on their way to their fourth consecutive 2-0 season start. The Knights are averaging over 306 yards of total offense, with most of it coming on the ground. Sophomore running back Camden Cox has already rushed for 309 yards on the young season. Cox is running behind an experienced offensive line led by John Faletra, Tomas Perez, and Joseph Hornbuckle. Quarterback Ethan Spector has already completed passes to eight different receivers this season. Defensively, linebacker Brandon Burdette has picked up where he left off, already with 36 total tackles including 3 sacks. Speaking of sacks, River Ridge has totaled 12 sacks already with Michael Fallon leading the way.

Pundit's Pick

This is maybe one the most intriguing games involving a Cherokee County game this week. A young, but explosive Sprayberry team, versus a River Ridge team that we don’t believe has reached their potential. For as many playmakers that both of these teams will trot out, we have a hunch this might be a low scoring battle. Something tells us Sprayberry’s run offense gives them a slight edge at home. Jackets by 3.
