Wolverines Look to Build on Breakout Year: 2025 Woodstock Wolverines Football Preview

ree

The 2024 season was one of the most dramatic turnarounds Cherokee County football has seen since River Ridge’s 2020 surge. But at Woodstock, it wasn’t just the play on the field that changed. It was the entire culture.

The Woodshed became a destination last fall. Students packed the stands, parents rallied behind the team, and the administration enhanced the game-day atmosphere with a DJ and food trucks along the main walkway. The result was a community celebration every Friday night.

Now, with momentum and confidence, Woodstock enters 2025 looking to take another step forward in Region 6-5A.

2025 Woodstock Football Schedule: Home Field Advantage at The Woodshed

The Wolverines open the season with the Battle of Towne Lake against crosstown rival Etowah on Eagle Mountain, a matchup that will set the tone for the rest of the year.

Woodstock closes its non-region slate with Woodland-Cartersville and North Springs, two programs still searching for consistency. Region play heavily favors the Wolverines at home, with critical games against River Ridge, Creekview, Sequoyah and Sprayberry all set for The Woodshed.

Offensive Outlook

Woodstock returns a mix of veteran starters and new contributors on offense. Junior quarterback Graham Burmeister is one of only two returning starters at the position in Cherokee County. Burmeister’s strong offseason included multiple college offers, including an FBS offer from Miami (Ohio).

The backfield will need to replace 1,000-yard rusher Isaiah Peyton. Multiple players are competing for carries, with Khalil Anderson emerging as a potential lead option.

The receiving corps will feature fresh faces following the graduation of Chase Colina and Drew Burmeister. Rylan Hubbard and Jordan Foster are expected to step into major roles.

Up front, the offensive line is anchored by returners Jamir Richardson, Maddox Mann and Carter Clay, with Parker Angel set to take over at center; creating a strong, experienced foundation for the offense.

Defensive Preview

While the defense will see turnover, the Wolverines bring back impact players at all three levels. The secondary is experienced, with Tyler Barbera, Luke Similien and Daniel Palmese leading the back end.

The linebacker corps will miss leaders Cooper Price and Andrew Burmeister, but Trace Washington and James D’Amico return to provide physicality and leadership.

The defensive line is in transition, with Tyler Howard the only returning starter. Newcomers like Djibril Ba will be counted on to produce quickly.

Season Expectations

After a breakthrough in 2024, Woodstock’s challenge will be maintaining its upward trajectory. With home-field advantage in key region matchups and a returning starting quarterback, the Wolverines are well-positioned to compete for a playoff spot.

If the new playmakers step up—particularly in the running game and along the defensive line—Woodstock could not only return to the postseason but also challenge the top contenders in Class 5A.
