Scouting the Wildcats
The Woodland Wildcats got a season opening win for the first time since 2021 as they went down to Stockbridge and defeated the Woodland-Stockbridge Wolfpack. The Wildcats are led by a talented duo of running back in Isaiah Livsey and Solomon James. Senior signal caller J.D. Trail throws a really good deep ball when given time and should pose a real threat to the opposition this week. The 38 points that the offense scored last week were the most since the 2021 season. Xavier Darby and Traver Groves are a pair of two way threats that should see plenty of time at wide receiver and we also expect them to be stalwarts in the Wildcats secondary.
Scouting the Wolverines
The Woodstock Wolverines won their season opener for the first times since the 2020 season as they downed neighborhood rival Etowah, 24-7. That 17 point victory was the largest in the series for the Wolverines since 2016. Now, Woodstock will turn their attention to another up and coming program. Last week, sophomore Graham Burmeister stole the show, accounting for over 250 yards of total offense including two passing and one rushing touchdowns. Burmeister is a dual threat quarterback, so expect him to continue to find ways to make things happen either through the air or on the ground this week. We beleive Chase Colina, Justin Yearout and Will Furstein will be in line for big games this week as well. Isaiah Payton led the Wolverines with 93 yards rushin on 18 carries. Dfensively, look for Drew Burmeister (9 Solo Tackles, 1-Int) and Cooper Price (12 Total Tackles, 2-sacks) to lead the way again.
Pundit's Pick
Both of these teams are in search of reversing recent misfortunes over the past few season. And a win by either team will go a long way in building confidence and perhaps breaking a couple of long playoff droughts. For Woodland, their key will be their ability to harass Woodstock’s young quarterback and really limit his ability to scramble. The Wildcats also must find away to get their running back duo going. Meanwhile, Woodstock will most certainly need to protect Burmeister to give him time to find his top receiving targets. Defensively, expect the Woodstock defense to be tested. They were good last week…will they have an encore performance. We think so. It will be close, but we like the Wolverines by 2.
